Another wire wheel specialist is Dayton- which you'll find much cheeper than Precision. I have put wheels done by each side by side and I could not tell the difference cosmetically. The latter also claims better than factory trueness-but this was not the case at balancing time. You should specify whether you want original chrome spokes or stainless. The former will be a tad brighter but will require more maintenance (broken fingernails!). By the way, if your Ferrari was made around 1962 the stamping on the rim changed from Carlo Borrani to Ruote Borrani- the sticker should match this as well. You often see 'chrome Borranis'- this refers to the original type wheel. At some point Borrani switched the manufacturing process of their rim. This newer rim is an aluminium forging- easily spotted because its not as shiny and the outside beaded edge is thicker. The original I believe was cold rolled and welded- you can see the seam with the tire off. The machined, forged aluminium wheel is better, but it is not correct for early cars. Recently,I have heard that production may change yet again because of German ownership. Be careful with the stampings- many an eager polisher has removed this detail. I reccomend a silicone bead put around the nipple bases on the hub to prevent axle grease bleed out. The GTE registry put out a manual with an excellent article on mounting and balancing Borranis. PS Always inspect the splines of your hubs before sending them out for restoration-they may not be worth salvaging. Finally, never buy used wheels over the phone! Happy New Year to all

I recently had a spare borrani repaired by cork adams (Precision wire wheel).
Top notch work. cork is responsive, accountable, and personable. I could not offer a higher recommendation.

Hi Joe,
I'm sure Borranis with the right off-set will fit, but consider the safety, and asthetic issues before you do it. Your 400 is pretty heavy, and that was one major reason Ferrari started using Mags for the latter cars, not to mention the wider tires and more stress induced from the added grip. On the asthetic side of things, would the "old world" look of the Borranis go with the angular styling of the 400?
Just my opinion.
