Correct Finish - Sway bar and brackets etc

Post by enio45 »

Can i please get some advise on the proper color finish on the sway bar, sway bar brackets that mount to the frame and the sway bar links?

Looking to send some parts out to powdercoat this week.

Hi Ed,

I am going by the notion that the sway bar and the (rubber bush) loops are satin black and the links are nickel plated.

Thanks John, any thoughts on the sway bar brackets that mount to the frame?

Any opinion on the nuts and bolts.....plate them as well? I think the bolts are black oxide as well as the washers. The nuts - are they clear zinc?

Hi Ed,

The sway bar brackets (loops) are satin black. The bolts and washers are black oxide and the lock nuts are clear cadmium.

Hi Ed,

I understand most platers will discount for your cleaning of the items.

Hi Ed,

The cleaner you can get your parts the better. Any grease or residue missed by the $10/hr parts washer at the platers will give you an irregular surface. Some platers do better jobs than others, but we try not to leave things up to chance.

John , i think i would replate the oem fasteners, nuts with yellow nylock. You can add Loctite as you need, when you see the need. The original nuts were made to a different earlier standard. There is less material in modern replacements and they are also roundier, most likely for some safety logic or material reduction.

yes, clear zinc on the nuts.

A correction if i may, clear CADMIUM for the nylock nuts in the mid 60's, not zinc.

OK, if i may - couple of more plating or painting questions for the front end.

The disc rotor backing plate - looks to me this is painted gloss black?

The spindle area where the control arms mount to and the piece at the top of spindle (has the lower shock mount on it) - this does not look to be plated - maybe just a cast look?

Appreciate the advise........

Instead of making headachse about nuts and bolts
place an 20 mm torsionbar on the front.
your driving handling will improve very strong, If you tread your car in the right way
near the 7000-8000 rpm border.
