Handbrake shaft

Post by zdr »

My handbrake stopped "ratcheting" and locking into place recently. I took things apart, and it seems like the hollow shaft that runs from the release button down and carries the electrical wires has broken. Am I correct in assuming that this piece (#69524) is supposed to be a single piece, and the fact that mine is not (looks broken up near the top), is probably the source of my problem? If so, any ideas where I could get a replacement?

Also, seems I have slow leak from water pump. In prior post I thought coolant was getting into my oil, but now it seems that is not the case (thankfully). I assume I should take the water pump off and replace gaskets. From the parts book, looks like there are two where it mounts to the engine, and another inside the pump. Will I likely need to replace all of these?

Thanks,
David

Hi David,

I'll let the 330 owners help you with your hand brake.

The water pump seal might be going bad. Is coolant leaking out of the weep hole at the bottom of the wp?

I can't tell exactly where the coolant is leaking from, it's just dripping off the bottom of the water pump.

There is a weep hole that drains any coolant that passes by the water pump seal. If it is dripping from the bottom, it is likely that you need to replace the water pump seal and probably need to clean up the washer that the seal seats on. See http://www.parrotbyte.com/kbc/ferrari/W ... ebuild.htm for when I fixed mine.

Hi David,

If you're going to do this yourself, be careful not to pull the water pump shaft out of the timing case when you pull the impeller out. Dislodge the chain cog in the timing case, and you're going to have a big problem.

Do others have a light at the tip of their handbrake that goes on when the handbrake is applied? It doesn't show up that way in my parts catalog, and I therefore haven't been able to find my broken part. It's chrome plated and hollow so that wires can travel up to the light at the tip.

Yes, the series 2 cars (with a red button) have a small light inside. See http://www.parrotbyte.com/kbc/ferrari/e ... _light.htm for details. More than likely, you will find cut wire(s) near the bottom. They get caught in the hinge.
Hey, if it is on a 330 GT, I've probably had to fix it!
