Anyway, the car has been purchased. We're now preparing for our trip to New York to pick up the car. Thanks to all of you for all of your help! Especially Yale for sending me to that other board where I was able to find the previous owner and talk with him about the car. It's what clinched the deal.

Good on you all!!

That front spoiler has got to go. Anyone know what fair market value for something like that is? Is this piece a Ferrari piece or some sort of aftermarket addition?

Sorry, I don't trust repair bills where each part rounds off to
even dollar amounts and the handwriting is too neat and legible.
A tad too smooth for me.

I know little about these cars BUT I do know that they have rust problems even more than 60s Ferrari. They are great cars to drive and can give a 60s V12 some trouble on tight roads. They are nice cars when sorted just like all old Ferrari.
Good luck.

Car has not been purchased JUST yet. Mike Cannillo (the car dealer) is having twin boys! We'll have to wait until next week to finalize the deal.

Basically, the previous owner purchased the car and had it shipped to NC. The pickup was two hours away from his home so he had to drive it back to his home. The water pump went out and he ended up not making it home. There was a new radiator installed just before it left New York on the truck. He had to have it towed home.

Soon thereafter, the clutch went out on it and the owner didn't have the funds to take care of it so Mike Cannillo bought the car back from him for the price he paid. The previous owner had nothing but good things to say about him. Told us about the struggles and of some rusting. There is a 4 inch rust spot under the car approximately around the drivers side door location. Outside of that, the car is virtually rust-free with a splotch here and there.

This is where the clutch repair comes into play.

One should budget at least 5 and preferably 10K for the first year maintenance when buying an old Ferrari. That's what it takes to sort out the problems and get a good reliable car. This is particularly true of the less expensive cars like 308s, etc. where maintence gets deferred until something breaks and/or the car is sold. Then the new owner inherits the problems.

Even though the 308 I bought had 15K work done a year previously, an A/C hose wore through on the drive home from San Diego to Seattle (I drive and don't ship my cars) and the water pump broke in less than a year. Also had 2 P-Zero tires that developed bulges. That and several other minor problems ended up in 2K parts costs. I did the work myself or it would have been right up there around 5K total with labor.
