Ahhgh Tom, I'm sitting miles away wishing that I was there and we could jack up the car and sort this out. Have had both on my car, fortunatly not at the same time, so can say that it is about a day with the right tools (flare wrench's - spacers - punch kit for the generic gasket stuff from Pep boys.. ...) to get you back on the road again. Can I suggest that you rent a trailer and tow it to Florida, I'm sure someone there will help out. Tom Wilson might be better at holding tools than his beer. Oh - and keep away from Yale.

never say die, you have options

pinch the hard line and limp here on three wheel brakes, not the best solution but it works.

I told you I have an empty truck and trailer sitting here with nothing to do, the truck has a lift inside and I have every tool imaginable to fix it if it can just get here.

Cavallino needs Your car here so let me know if there is any way I can help, seriously

Well Zac, is right
Take off the wheel ,disconnect the going in braketube at the callipterside.
place a litle metal ball/bullet inside (old pencil or ballpoint) and screw it together.
thats all
30 min. of work.

O.K. Guys,

You've all inspired me to give it one more shot. We're going outside to at least jack up the car and take a look.

Since the flex hose was on fire, I'm going to by pass the whole right brake system. Since the front system has a equalizer splitter under the radiator, I'm going to block off the line from that unit. There's a ball bearing inside the bleeder that I can fish out to use to block the line.

I'll let you know how we make out!

Good luck Tom, I am pulling for you! On the positive side, at least you have an opportunity to get the car back on the road compared with the new cars that would leave you dead in the water with a bad computer chip.

Never say die Tom! Not using that one front caliper sounds like a decent plan to me. Just give yourself plenty of space when driving and I think you will be fine. If there is something we can work on at my house I am glad to take the day off tomorrow and try to help out.

Thanks everyone for your support!!

Here's where we are. I plugged up the right front brake line, and I at least have three calipers working. The ball in the caliper was too thick for the fitting to go back on, but after some brain storming, I cut a piece of lead off my lead hammer and filed it to fit inside the fitting!

We're going to try and limp down to FLA. Never say die!!!

Ohland could have a caliper rebuild kit/seals, etc. fedexed to Zac's hotel room in 24 hours . . . . He was able to do that for me when my front caliper siezed the Friday before a Sunday show.

Also, I think you get to ADD points for driving onto the show field in flames.

Brian,
A sticking caliper is normally due to oxidation between housing and piston.
Caused by to much WATER in the DOT-4 fluid !!!
to replace the rubbers will be not enough (sleeving)

Well if the rain in LA can hold off for two more hours, I will be on my way. Hopefully my trip will be less eventful than the other Tom's. However, the tornado that landed in LA yesterday indicates that it might not be that easy. Will be in Palm Beach by 9pm and available at any time to lend my limited skills. And just to show Andrew, I will hold the beer and the tools!

Glad to hear you are back on the road! I agree, you should get points for improvization, fortitude, mechanical skill, and embodiment of "Ferraris are meant to be driven." :wink:

Gee how much fun are these old cars? Every drive is an adventure The new car guys have no idea how much fun they are missing out on. Well done Tom. Drive carefully.

I just got a call from Mark. The travelling Wilburys are just pulling into our development. Looks like the drive was eventful, but ultimately successful!
