This horn topic is high on my list of things to sort out as someone in my GTCs previous life messed up my horn setup completely. In my research I have found that all of the later 250 road cars seemed to have used the Fiamm Roadmaster horns. Note that I say seemed to have used. The comp cars often had Stridor horns. Anyway, the Roadmasters were used on the 250GTE, the Lusso, the Cabriolets and some early 275s and on your 330 America no doubt. The compressors were painted in wrinkle black with a smaller grain of wrinkle. This applies to the upper body and cap. The screws were standard oval headed natural steel, but I will use Stainless screws on the final resto. The plastic oil fill caps were all red are one piece so the tops tended to break off of the loop that held them in place. These caps are available from Mike Dunn. The horn trumpets had hammertone silver diaphragms and the two halfs held together with the same type of screws noted above. The horn trumpets themselves were painted a candy apple red and this has been the subject of endless discussion. Which shade of Candy Apple Red was it?? I am still trying to sort this one out, to get the right shade of red but in a durable paint finish. ie: not model paint. I should have mentioned that I think the compressor mounting brackets where just silver cad plated. I have a couple here and can take pics if needed. Everything was linked together with red plastic hose or tubing. This is also available from Mike Dunn. Some say the colour is a bit off. Also, I have seen some hose from the early cars that is red but also has a black Pirelli scrip painted on them. I have taken down the information for this script and plan to make a template or stamp to replicate it on the red hose. The hose was run to the two horns with a red plastic "Y" connector fitting. Anybody got one of these? I need it badly. The newer hose is stiffer than the original and is harder to slip fit on the metal ends of the parts so just heat the plastic abit with hot water to soften it when slipping them on. I have more to say but I am getting tired of typing. Clem.

Clem,
Maybe we could do a little 'scratch and sniff'
Or do you call this in the US :the Pavlov effect ?
See pics below
Carello Craig will probebly comment.

Interesting- are you sure about that? I haven't noticed any sign of that on mine, but then again i'm pretty sure mine were spraypainted black at some point, covering over whatever color they might have been originally.

Hi,

This morning I took the original trumpets off my 365 GT4/BB to see the color.I can confirm that my memories were wrong (My apologies, they are not anodized) ,they are painted with a very thin and transparent red paint which lets see the metal through.

Here are the pics .The blue paint is the original color from another car, Daytona plexi or Dino 206gt .

Franck, glad to see you pursuing this subject. You would think with 14 pages we would have some understanding of this FIAMM subject , but we have a lot to learn yet. The information on the plastic end cap is important, while it looks the same to all casual observing, it is not. The same with the trumpet end flare, and the length of the complete trumpet would be of value too!
thanks

Craig it's always a pleasure if I can help.

The caps and the 2 trumpets are the same on the Daytona or the 365 GT4/BB ,they are beige and it's written the same thing on both.

For the compressor I already have posted pics (page 13) ,the stamp was "2J" for a 1973 Daytona.

This Thread is more and more crazy but I like it !!

Thanks Clem for mentioning this detail in 2009.
In my research, with a variety of 60's era Italian cars, i have finally come across the Pirelli logo found on Fiamm red plastic horn tubing. At first it appeared to be nonsense staining of the hose, but closer inspection shows different. The compressor is stamped 609, for 1966 build date. This original (but not for long)Fiamm horn set was found on a 1967 Lamborghini GT400 2+2 that is currently under going a freshen up of the engine compartment. I bet i have looked at and photo documented 100+ Fiamm horns sets, most have been restored, i have never heard mention of this ......so the tubing must have been stamped every 50 feet or so. LOL

Anyway, an easy detail to add to any Fiamm equipped car. Order a stamp online for $15, get some permanant ink, practice on someone elses car till you get it right, then add one stamp to your tubing in a prominent location.

Now back to scraping the engine compartment

Gang:

Let's play an old favorite again.

I bought a set of Fiamm horns from Tom S. a while back, who knows what car it came from. The date code on the compressor is 705, which according to this thread of knowledge means 1967, May. All things on this set of horns matches what is described and documented in this thread, except for one thing. The horn bases, where the diaphragm is housed is painted a wrinkle black finish, instead of hammertone silver as shown on all of the horns on this thread. The set appear never to have been touched, so it does not appear to me that they were redone at some point and therefore it appears that the wrinkle black is original. Not sure if it matters, but these horns is going into an early 1967 car. Given the documentation in this thread and the lack of documentation as to what car these horns came from, I assume silver hammertone is correct. However, before I strip the bases I want to seek input from the Collective as to what is likely to be correct.

Thanks.

Alberto, You need to post pictures of what you have , ie 705 stamped plate, compressor, trumpet set, etc.
thanks
