330 cylinderhead left side

Post by Hein »

Hello!

Does anybody have a left side cylinderhead for a 330 ? I have a very good right one ( 83,7mm ) to exchange , but would buy the left sife if necessary.

Thanks

Hello Hein,

I believe with a good machinist, you can covert a head to fit the other side.

Okay, Tom, I'll take the bait... how would this be done?

If you look at the head, they are the same castings. The machining of the water passages are different, but with some welding and machining, I bet it can be done. With heads costing upwards of $5-10K, the research and work might become feasible.

Just a thought.

Tom, in a V engine the opposing pistons are not on the same axis, which means the left and right sides of the whole engine are not simply mirror imaged.

I had the same idea to machine the water holes, but the problem is the camshaft.

The next problem is the rear oil channel from the block to the camshaft.
If I can´t find a left side head, we will machine the cylinderhead.

Thanks

Hein, have you contacted Geoff Ohland at Partssource? Geoff seems to come up with parts when no one else can. Come to think about it, have you contacted Tom Shaughnessy? Tom has plenty of parts available and may willing to trade. Both these gentlemen have forgotten more about Ferrari parts in my estimation than anybody else in the business.

Hello!

We have solved the problem. The heads can be converted from left to right. After 3 beers the hands of my mechanic and 2 friends were quiet. He did a 100% perfect job and hit the exact point for the oil passage.

Thanks

Hein As this is the 330 archive of record - for future generations could you post the details of how exactly you did the conversion?? M
