Positive terminal:
You can see the ends of the individual wires showing through the solder.
Negative terminal:
The wire was probably tinned, put into the hole and then soldered in place with lots of solder and probably a torch for heat. You can see excess solder on the outsides of the terminal. It looks like the split is completely filled with solder and then something stamped in that solder on the + terminal.

Re: Making concours correct 250 Battery Cables
After a lot of time spent trying to find what I believe to be closest to the correct materials I finished the cables. In short, I used Parker Hall's Brass terminals, 1 gauge black wire on both positive and negative, 1/2 ID sleeve over the positive cable only, both 3/8 tin plated copper lugs, and 1 1/2" 9/16 ID Neoprene tube to finish each cable end. Thanks to Kerry for the great original photo's.My soldering was a little neater than the factory.

Re: Making concours correct 250 Battery Cables
I am to produce concours correct battery cables and these pictures certainly would help. Unfortunately I cannot open these despite being logged in. Can anybody help? What do I have to do to make these pics visible?
Thanks and best regards,

Re: Making concours correct 250 Battery Cables
I'm not sure what happened to these pictures, but they probably got lost during some message board move or upgrade. I reloaded the ones in my posts.
Perhaps SLM can repost his. I did notice that i had to resize mine to get them to reload.

Re: Making concours correct 250 Battery Cables
When assembling either the post or lug terminals to a cable; it is best to have a good mechanical crimp prior to soldering. If solder alone is the only mechanical attachment then heat from long cranking could soften a solder alone attachment, and loosen the cable. As a matter of fact it is good practice to solder ALL terminals used in automotive applications.
