[SEARCH] Parts needed

Post by Besters »

For my 250 GT/E #2281GT I'm looking for...

The rotary-knobs (part # 241-30-362) to rotate the Vent-Windows (front-door)
and the bezels (part # 241-30-370) for them.

I need both parts twice, one for each side.

Any help welcome !
Regards
Markus

Some years ago I recall seeing an article from someone who, in Denmark I think, had cnc machined aluminium replacements. I cannot remember if that was on this forum or in the 250GTE newsletter - perhaps this will jog someone else's memory.
At the time I liked the idea of aluminium in place of Bakelite (one of mine has a crack and a piece missing) but took no further action.

Thank you for the hint, Terry.
Tom Y. told me about this Aluminium-Knobs but I would like VERY MUCH to have the original Bakelit-Knobs.

Hi Markus, have you given any thought to casting them yourself out of cold cure black resin? I made some knobs for my C4 and they came out great. Very easy to do with kits available online. Good luck, Mike

THANK YOU Tom W. !
Yes, that are the parts I need.

BUT ...

unbelieveble bad condition and dismatching pricing ! (Sorry, Tom S.)

That is the same condition, my parts are and why I need "new" ones.

Markus

Hi Marcus,

If yours are in similar condition to the one's Tom S is selling, you can restore them with pretty good results.
Image
Here is a before and after photo from when I did mine many years ago.

The trick is to lightly sand the knobs with very fine sand paper, starting with a grit that removes the scratches without deforming the knobs. 320 grit is probably the coarsest grit and probably something less aggressive like a 500 or 800 grit will work. Wet sanding works best with some soap in the water. Work up to 2000 grit and polish with a buffing wheel made for plastic. Once you do these knobs and see how great they look, you'll want to do all the other knobs. The tail light lenses will look great too!

Hi Marcus,

I'm sure someone in Europe has a buffing wheel made for plastic parts:

You'll be surprised how good it will look when you're done.

Hi Marcus,

I'd just get the chrome stripped off at your local platers, dress out the dents and get it re-chromed. You could do it for about £10 if they put it in with another job. Don't take any minimum charge nonsense, I haven't met a plating company that run the process tank for just one item.
