Way fun day today! Left the house in Los Angeles at 5:30 am to meet the upholster an hour away, where he agreed to open the shop so I could pick up the rest of my stuff (note: bringing a check helps). Then it was off to San Diego, a breakfast strategy session with Zac and off to the shop to put away my interior parts. We planed to put it in my storage locker next to the shop, but when we got there, could not resist test fitting it in the car. It looks great! I had worried about too much red, but the white dash, the black trim on the dash and bottom of the windows, as well as the seat chrome really made the whole thing work. Everything is just sitting in place in these photos, so will look much better when it hits Monterey. Plan to be at Concorso Italiano on the 15th to see the real deal.

Tom, i agree - how could you not check it out to see the color - i think it is beautiful. Love the workmanship!

Which color red is that - 3171?

Yes We matched it to Pella Rossa VM 3171, which was original to the car.

On another subject, I was talking to the guy who does my engine welding and he estimates that he spent 50 hours welding the block! He says that he has never seen such lousy metal. Yes there were a lot of problems caused by the car sitting for years with an alcohol based coolant, but even more from the impurities in the metal the factory used to cast the block in the first place. The work was not cheap, but significantly less than a new block.

Tom - been following your progress.
If my overdrive ever arrives at Zac's shop, I may join you and the others at Monterey. Considering it's 3 weeks away..... that's probably a long shot. My car has essentially been ready since March, albeit the missing piece to complete the overdrive rebuild.

In any event, well done. Love the color. Car looks gorgeous.
Best regards-
Mike

4247 GT is really heading for Monterey! Zac really burned the midnight oil all month and with some weekend help from David Booth, my wife Paula and myself, got us one beautiful GTE. Just a teaser photo for now, but be prepared for lots of more from Monterey and the Gathering of 24 GTE/330 Americas. Got an interesting restoration story for you as well, but that will have to wait until next week...

We crossed the finish line! 4247 GT drove onto the lawn at Concorso Italiano and on to the stage for a truly fun coming out party. With 22 GTEs in attendance, "Rocinante" was in fine company. It was great to see so many of you in person and to swap stories. I even met a guy who used to detail my car for its original owner back in the 1960s! We are off to the FCAs National Concours tomorrow and another chance to hang with the Yangsters. More photos to follow.
