Evaporust

Post by enio45 »

Tom, on your blog you show the pics of the surface rust on the trans parts.

I would dip them in Evaporust for a day and you would be amazed as to the finish. Follow up with some fine steel wool
and they will look like new.

Hey Ed

Where can one buy this evaporust? I don't have an immediate need, but it sounds intriguing.

Cheers

i get it at my autocrats start, checkers or o'rilleys

u can google it and see where they distribute

this stuff works so well we use it in all of the restorations where we need to retain the orig part. We clean driveshafts with it, and my buddy bought a 55 gallon drum of it and used it on blocks and cranks etc......

i discovered this about 3 yrs ago and not sure how we can restore a car with out it....

Amazon carries it as well. User reviews seem to be similarly glowing.

Plain white vinegar works just as well.

Have used it for years on old rusted F parts and old aircraft castings. They say it is OK to dump it into the dirt when done as the iron is good for plants.
Easy on the hands, eyes, and nose.

I'm just about to see the last of my "Berryman Chemtrol" 5 gallon dip. Excellent degreaser and paint remover (if you want it to be). Are these two similar enough for me to buy the Evaporust when my Berryman's finally goes away? They sound, on the surface (sorry, I can't help myself), to be pretty different. Can anyone provide any guidance here? thanx. s

Steve, the evaporust is not a degreaser - if you have grease - you have to remove that first before dipping into the evaporust for it to work effectively.

OK, I bought a small bottle of this Friday at my local O'Reilly and have used it four separate times this weekend, as I compulsively continue to clean and reseal my engine. This stuff is amazing...most impressive. Would be interesting to test it against white vinegar, which I have used successfully to clean corrosion from shower heads. s

we used it on a lot of different parts...works well on galvanized parts, like window tracks on American cars

we started with a small sample, moved to the 5 gal bucket quickly and now onto the 55 gal drum for cast iron blocks, we do drive shafts in long tubes, u name it......we keep a small amount in a gallon container on the bench for small stuff like nuts and bolts.

Where the orig finish is needed for restoration work - this is great. We follow up with RPM rust preventative paste over the cleaned surface to preserve the bare look from rusting.

glad it worked out...
