Hi A.D.

I agree with Tom. My car 12659 has points and original ballast resistors, etc. It also has the original dinoplex units, which I am told take the load off the points. My car starts with very little encouragement, just a tap on the accelerator and a twist of the ignition key will result in an easy idle, very little cranking of the starter motor.

From my experience, working in my little bubble of isolation: If the valve clearances are correctly adjusted, the cam timing is correct and the ignition system is correctly set along with the carburetor settings, it results in a very eager running engine. Assuming that compression is up to snuff!

Cheers, from the bubble

Thank you Tom and Mark.

That's exactly the information i needed.

The resistor has been ordered and is on its way to India.

Will report back once fitted and engine started.

My next question is regarding the pulley

There is some kind of rubber seal which appears cracked.

Trying to upload a picture.

Would appreciate any suggestions on how this could be addressed.

Many thanks.

That is not a seal, it's the harmonic damper. I've never had one redone but I understand it can be.

Yes, the harmonic balancer. It does appear to be perished. In rare cases the rubber rots out and the outer piece separates completely.

Google "Harmonic balancer repair"

I used this guy for a Dino Balancer. Very easy to deal with.

Thank you.

That's the information i needed.

Now that the resistor has arrived the plan
Is to start the engine, run it for some time
Before sending the harmonic balancer off to
the usa for a rebuild.

The engine has started!

We keep it running for about an hour everyday to
Seat and seal everything properly.

In the meanwhile have started working on the
Brakes and the suspension.

Need suggestions on where to buy pistons and seals
for all 4 calipers?

Congratulations! I think driving the car with varying rpms will do a better job at breaking in the engine. If it starts, I would make sure you store it in a dry place and not run it too long just sitting. Rings need to get hot and bearings need to be run at different rpms to break in properly. Idling will not get the engine oil hot enough to do any real good.

All the usual suspects sell brake pistons and seals. stainless steel pistons may be worth the investment to avoid issues later on. I would probably suggest just ordering new pistons to avoid having problems by fixing one part at a time.

Could you point me to a supplier of these pistons?

Many thanks

Greetings... Try British parts Northwest if they are the Dunlop calipers. Good prices and good service.

Partsource, GT car parts, T Rutlands, come to mind in the States,

Maranello Concessionaires https://www.ferrariparts.co.uk/ may also be a good option for shipping to India. Andrew, who works there, is a member of this forum.
