250 GTE Carpet Kits

Post by silver1331 »

Has anyone ever ordered the carpet kits from World Upholstery? If so does anyone have pictures/opinions on quality, fit, etc? 4533 has an original interior and i plan to keep the seats, etc that way but the carpet is in need of replacement and i think it will do alot to spruce up the interior. Is the wilton wool carpet kit on World Upholstery's website period correct? Thanks

It's just my opinion, but I would avoid a ready made carpet kit from ANYONE. These are hand made cars, and getting more valuable every minute. Getting the carpets to fit very nicely not only looks good, but protects your investment. I've seen other kits for cars like Dinos fit very poorly simply because Ferrari tended to make rolling changes to the floors on some cars and the templates used by these kits are unknown to the fit in your particular car. The overall savings is not worth the risk in my opinion. A nice fitting carpet set looks great, but a bad one is an embarrassment.

getting down off my soapbox. Sorry!

I have used World Upholstery and am pleased. They will happily send samples.I sent my old carpets and had them match them while adding a little extra material at the borders for trimming.Tom Y, among others on this site, has seen my interior and can comment to give you more insight if they would like. When Mike sent them his carpets to use as a template, he was ahead of the game, but it won't be the same for the next car they try to use those patterns for.

I'm always one for saving money, but there's no savings in time, effort, or money if you have to do things twice.

Recently my car was marked down at the FOC UK concours for non original carpets.
I may seek to rectify this but have yet to find out what the issue was.
The below show 3 pictures of driver side foot wells from various GTE. The bordeaux and blue carpets are from 4683 and 3079 (thanks to Suzie Pilkington) the pale carpet is from a re trim by O'rourke. The other picture is my car 2837 GT, unfortunately I don't have a good foot well picture and the currently the car is at Terry Hoyle's
Which ones look most original to you guys?
Note the different way the carpet is trimmed around the pedals?
Also note that my car and 3079 have a plastic protector over the carpet to the right of the accelerator. The O'Rourke car has a natty metal kick plate, pretty but correct or not ?

Here are some pictures of SN2259. The driver's side floor has an over mat I made to cover the original carpet, but you can see some of the details of the original carpets. This car is original. so I would feel confident with its details.

The details on the blue carpets for the pedal openings is wrong, and there should be a separate square piece of carpet in the foot well instead of it being one piece.

Thanks Tom,
My car does have the same pattern around the pedals as yours and the same separate section behind the pedals.
Do you know if yours ever had the clear plastic covering to side of the gas pedal? Was this standard I wonder?
I have seen it on a few cars.

On my original GTE 2853, there is plastic over the carpet next to the accelerator pedal and around the firewall area.

Good to know, the plastic protection looks too cheap to be anything other than genuine. 8)

I do not have the plastic covers listed on my database, so I cannot tell you how many cars have them. I can say, however that my Series III, 4247 GT has the aluminum panel, not plastic. The photo below is from a late 1961 magazine from Finland called Tekniikan Maalima that shows a GTE with what appears to be the plastic cover, so maybe it was used on the earlier cars.

OK Yangsters; chime in. Does your GTE have plastic or aluminum?

Here is picture of 2837 Gt (series1) carpets. Still not clear why the lost me points at the FOC concours. They have plastic protection which seems correct for early cars, a separate piece of carpet behind the pedals, the correct cut away around the pedals and so on. Clearly they aren't the original ones but hey, neither are the tyres !

Tom, your aluminium panel is it similar to the O'rourke metal plate pictured above?
