1965 330 GT 2+2 Series 1 iterim car radio

Post by AEB »

Does anyone know what make and model radio would have been in the 1965 330 GT. Would the antenna be deployed manually or would it have been power?

I believe radios were generally installed after sale, sometimes by the dealer, and probably the brand and type would depend on the country of destination.

Speakers were installed by the factory, radios (if fitted) were installed by the dealer. I believe S1/interim should be mono (single speaker in console and I believe single speaker in rear-shelf -- easy to confirm by looking). Becker and Blaupunkt were a most commonly use. Becker Europa is a good match, but not the Europa II which was stereo. I believe antennas were typically electric Hirschmann, installed opposite the side of the fuel filler. The fuel filler was on the right for S1/interim and on the left for S2, so I think the antenna would go on left for an Interim car.

I know we are talking series 1 cars here -

My series II car had the antenna on the front fender....orig european car, assumed installed since new.

When i worked thru the body work on my car i took it out of the fender and did not install any antenna.

I do agree that most if not all except mine are installed in the rear.

My series II, the next to the last made, had the factory installed antenna on the right front fender. No speaker grill on the rear deck. No radio just the blank leather cover with the flags. Jim

Greetings... My 64 has an antenna in the right front fender. There is a ghost of the original silver paint under the mount. There is no evidence of a speaker in the rear. The car has no console so no speaker there. It had a radio hung under the dash and speakers in the doors added much later when I got it. Just to add to the confusion.

As the antenna's were installed by the dealers, there is no pattern as to their location (in the GTE Register, I track this as it is a great aid in identifying cars from photos). I have seen antennas installed on each of the the four corners as well as the top of the windshield, top of the rear window and of course, none at all. My two cents is to install it wherever you like it best...
