330GT clutch

Post by Lowell »

I have already posted this on FerrariChat with no responses. So I thought that I would try here too.

I have a 1966 Ferrari 330GT, whose clutch throwout bearing must be replaced. It is a single row ball bearing.
Ferrari Technical Letter #62 of Feb. 28, 1967 states that this bearing should be S.K.F. 1812.107.000
In searching the web, it appears that this bearing is no longer manufactured.
Anyone know of a correct replacement?

While I am at it, any recommendations for new clutch discs and pressure plates?
I have heard that some of the re-manufactured items require a much larger clutch pedal force.

Hello Lowell
I bought over the years at least 5-6 complete Clutch assambles AS T.Rutlands sells them.
I bought them from an other provider, but identical as on foto below. Don´t remember the name right now,
They are diaphragma clutchs in stead of the org Ferrari 3 fingerclutch and works perfct for late 250PF serie 2 and 275GTB
I think it should work also for early 330gt with overdrive.
I dont know you type so check at him !
its all complete with throwout bearing and clutch pate.
you need less pedalpressure as on the 3 finger once.
I can recommend him .
they are manufacted in Germany.
but could not find out where.
low cots of around 1000 USD.
hope this is helpfull.

regards

C.

Hi Lowell,

How hard is your pedal pressure now? SII cars have very stiff clutches to begin with!

Clutch pedal force has never been very large on my Series II car.
This is a late Series II with two engine mounts --- the engine is essentially a GTC engine.
The engine forms a unit with the transmission. The transmission has only one mounting at the rear.
Kerry tells me that this is the transmission used on the later 365 2+2.

Here is a photo of my clutch pressure plate and throwout bearing. Could it be for a 365GT 2+2?

Hi Lowell,

I guess the best way is to check part numbers, but the SII 330 has the same transmission as the 365GT 2+2, so the clutches could very possibly be the same.

Have you called the usual suspects for Ferrari parts, and seen if they have a replacement part?

Kerry says that although the late SII with two engine mounts (an only the two mount engines)
have the 365GT transmission, they do not share any of the clutch parts.

Perhaps the best way is to have the old parts rebuilt. Any comments?
