330 GT air baffles
330 GT air baffles
Lowell and I were looking at a page in the Pininfarina 330 GT body parts book (foglio 66 & 66/1) and I noticed some parts that are unfamiliar to me:
30 convogliatore centrale aria al radiatore (central air to the radiator shroud)
31 convogliatore laterale destro aria al radiatore (right side radiator air conveyor)
32 convogliatore laterale sinistra aria al radiatore (left side radiator air conveyor)
I've never seen any baffles surrounding the radiator on a 330GT and was wondering if any car ever had these. Of course, any help in cooling would be good, so preventing air from flowing around the radiator rather than through would help.
Specifically parts:30 convogliatore centrale aria al radiatore (central air to the radiator shroud)

Re: 330 GT air baffles
Greetings… 5769 has all three. 31 and 32 are welded to the side panels of the engine compartment and 30 is a removable piece of light gauge steel. The radiator fits up against the 31 and 32 from the rear. If you have lived with Morgans, you know the importance of sealing off air leaks so all the air that comes in the front goes through the radiator so I use some foam weather stripping tape to seal them against the radiator. The removable valance panel that goes from the bottom of the front bodywork back to a cross member completes the fourth side so air coming in through the grill and front openings goes through the radiator.

Re: 330 GT air baffles
my 330 gt did NOT have them - and it is an orig car......interesting on some muscle cars that we have done - baffles show up on cars with AC for the same purpose as described above.
On the Ellena car - much older car it has side baffles #31 and 32 that are screwed to the front nose horizontal tubes. I have not seen anything on the top.....

Re: 330 GT air baffles
Greetings… Ed, my car has had these baffles for at least the last 39 years since I bought it so I'm pretty sure they are original to my car. Both you and Kerry's car are series 2 whilst mine is an early series 1 which could be the difference.

Re: 330 GT air baffles
All 3 pieces on 5749 as well. A real pain trying to get to anything under #30 if you had to. Probably can explain why many are missing.
Re: 330 GT air baffles
Tim, was your car equipped with A/C?
Looks like series one had them - series 2 did not??
Wonder if they did something different with the radiator/cooling fans etc thinking the baffles were
not needed for series 2?

Re: 330 GT air baffles
Greetings… No AC and no electric fan. I think the series 2 cars had electric fans which might also be why the factory thought they didn't have the baffles. Five blade aluminum fan with electric clutch on water pump.

Re: 330 GT air baffles
yes i was not aware that series 1 had no electric fans.....
series II if i got it correctly had one electric fan and if you got A/C you got a second fan activated when the ac compressor was turned on.
thanks for that info

Re: 330 GT air baffles
In addition to the mechanical fan, some late series 1 cars also had an electric fan mounted ahead of the radiator with a relay on the left inner fender panel below the fuel regulator.

Re: 330 GT air baffles
Thats exactly the electric fan set up on 5749
Re: 330 GT air baffles
I have seen those baffles on a series one car before. They look easy to reproduce.
Re: Boano GT air baffles
Hello, do I understand correctly that the Boano also had these baffle on each side of the radiator? Mine (635GT) does not have them, leaving a large gap on each side, which puzzled me for some time!
Along the same line, does anyone knows if the Boano had some aluminum panels under the dash board? Mine does not have them, but the interior trims were rather crude, so it may be normal? But there are some holes on the lower lip of the dash board panel which may be for securing decoration panels?
And last, on the left of the clutch pedal, it seems there was a kind of foot operated headlight dip switch. Anyone knows what type and brand?
Incidentally, it seems all Boanos did not have louvers in front of the radiator. Several period chassis pictures show the radiator without louvers.
Thanks for your expert advice!

Welcome to the forum. If I see a Boano at a car show, I'll try to take some pictures of the radiator area.

Re: 330 GT air baffles
Ananda, welcome
I have access to a boano and i can confirm that due to the rad size and the openings, they had baffles on each side.
I own an ellena and have pics on at least 10 others and they all have baffles as well. I will take a few pics of the baffles
that we duplicated on my ellena (0855GT) as part of the restoration of the car currently underway. As we always say, never say never, or a broad statement that they all had them.....there are exceptions, we just don't know why or when until some discovery happens.
Related to the under the dash holes, there are at least 2 braces that secure the bottom of the dash to the firewall to keep it from flexing. one near the left side of the glove box and the other to the right of the steering wheel. The one at the right of the steering wheel is a wider bracket, and for my case, also mounted the hand windshield washer pump.
Ill get some pics and post them.....
I did not look your car up, but is it alloy body?
