Cleaning headliner
Cleaning headliner
Looking for recommendations for what to use to take light stains out of my headliner. It is relatively good condition other than the stains and I would like to avoid replacing it. I know that Tom had used Simply Green and had some success. Start with soap and water?

Re: Cleaning headliner
Start with a mild soap and work towards more aggressive cleaners if the stains don't come out. Mineral spirits is on the scale of mild solvent based cleaners if the water based soaps like simple green doesn't work. The harsher solvents like acetone will work better, but it tends to strip the plastic and can damage the material. Obviously, be careful with the fumes. I heard it's not good for your health!
After cleaning, I would re-hydrate the plastic with some conditioner like meguiars plastic protectant.

Re: Cleaning headliner
I found Autoglym car interior cleaner to work wonder on headlinings. Spray on and after some minutes carefully wipe off. This worked a treat with stained and tobacco yellowed headliners.
Re: Cleaning headliner
The Simple green worked really well at getting out most of the stains. I diluted it 10/1 and used a toothbrush on some of the darker stains.

Hi Dwight,
How is the chrome on the visor rods? Sometimes the rust can be polished off with some chrome polish.

Chrome is rusted. I’ll try the polish to see if that helps.
Thanks!

visor drooping
since you have the visors off, if they droop, usually an easy fix.
I removed the rod and found 2 friction fittings embedded inside the visor had worn down the contact surfaces of the rod.
those friction fittings aren't adjustable AFAIK, so I mixed up some JB Weld and after cleaning the worn area and merely smoothed some on circumferentially.
then sanded to the original OD and they slid back in fairly easily and work perfect now. that stuff is pretty strong and hard and hasn't failed me in over a year of use.

Re: Cleaning headliner
Thanks Michael. I’ll have to try that. They do droop a bit.
