Gas Filler Overflow Pipe

Post by Tom Wilson »

Can anyone send me a photo of the pipe that catches any spilled gas from the filler area? It can be seen inside the trunk. Mine is missing and the trunk is starting to smell a bit!

Hi Tom,

I think there was a vinyl hose connected to pipe at the base of the fuel door and it ran through a hole at the bottom of the trunk well.

Think it is the same macaroni hose as the oil drains? And what are you doing up at this hour?

Hi Tom, John,

I know that the vent pipe running beside the filler in the boot is translucent green with Pirelli on it. I am not sure about the overflow pipe Tom is looking for. As it was missing on mine I asked Martin from Austria about a picture of his - see attachment. I used a translucent pipe.

Thanks Chris, that is very helpful. It maybe green from the gas or age, but in any case, it seems to be how one should look in a car that is being used! I will see what is available out there.

Tom W, I believe the hose is green and it's a CAVIS product. One serves as vent and runs from the tank to the filler neck and the second one serves as overflow and runs from the filler box to the ground. Here's mine and you can see that it looks the shade as the one in your picture.

Great. Newco has it for considerably more than other retailers seem to have and they gave it a warning to not be used with fuel! I think I will shop around.

Here is a photo of the green vent hose in my GTE. It has Pirelli in white letters printed on it and seems to be original. I can not add to the drain hose beside the photos I posted in above contributions as this was missing on my car.

Hope this helps

My apologies, here's my tank and right there it is, the white "Pirelli" lettering on the hose.

Thanks John,

is your overflow pipe the same material and color? And does it ha a smooth surface. If yes I would need to change mine.

Tom,

If I remeber right I saw green translucent hoses in a DIY market in the departement for aquariums. Might be a source to look at.

All the best

Chris, my overflow hose was missing, but there is no reason to believe that they would have used two different types of hoses for the same component, considering the male fittings are all the same size. Restoration shops use the green hose for the drip.
