Talk about a 'Barn Find'!

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayI ... 29516&rd=1

personally, I am a bit credulous about the 'Alloy Body' claims,
but I am sure the 'Serial Number Sleths' among us will sort it out

It looks like a no reserve auction!

One of the unhappy eBay'ers is Tom Shaughnessy, a frequent poster to this forum and the host for the Monterey party. This car was originally auctioned in the spring. It was posted in the very early morning (US time) with a Buy It Now at 38K. Tom found the auction and used the Buy It Now option to purchase the car. Then the seller refused to complete the deal and wanted 48K instead. Since the actual owner and car were in Japan (the eBay seller was in the US), Tom elected to not sue as the deal just wasn't worth the hassle.

Hence the negative feedback, well deserved in my opinion.
Regards, Kerry

VIN 12653. Isn't that a vin code from 1969.
Car in Japan - they drive on the left side. RHD or LHD ?

Symbolic Motors is now bidding on it. I imagine they have good connections and would know whether this is a sham. But who knows.

The car is the real deal: the one and only alloy-bodied Daytona road car. I think that at issue here is the fact that the eBay seller and the actual owner of the car are two different people.

CORRECTION: Though Hilary Raab listed this car in his s/n book as being alloy-bodied, Bill Noon of Symbolic Motorcars says he has confirmed that it is NOT.

Hi Grumpy,

The car was never for sale. The person who listed the car on ebay was not the owner, only someone who knew the whereabouts of the car and thought that, if he could draw a high enough bid, he could buy and flip the car. This is not the first time he has offered this car for sale when it was not his to offer.

As for the alloy coachwork, knowing Symbolic's connections to Japan, I'm certain Bill was able to verify beyond doubt that the car is steel-bodied. The Raab book has been wrong before (there are five Daytonas listed as "COMP STREET" that also have the designation "AL," though it has since been confirmed that they are not alloy either) so the error is not surprising.

it was almost a scam. somebody who knew of the car put the car up for sale, hoping the owner would sell (He did not wish to do so). And yes, it is not certain that this is an aluminum car, most likely not.
It was a fun soap opera while it lasted.
