Re: 2169GT
The Paris photo - as seen in the Owen (Osprey) book - is an amateur shot with heavy over exposure; the photogtapher was probably fooled by too much light and white surfaces surrounding the car.Scott Oshry wrote:If you look closely at the b/w photos of MM16229 you do not get this color shift.
If this thread is turning into religion I suggest we'll wait till some color photos surface. Until then I would be very carefull to claim this is 2169GT; too many details are wrong. Best wishes, Kare

Kare,
No Religon here, merely presenting the evidence and no more. The car has plenty of significance on its own and at this point I am just doing the research on the car. I have no doubt that color pictures will surface.
T308,
can you please tell me where you see the plate used on other cars?
Zac

Color shifts, spectrum analysis, tire changes, good photos, bad photos, he said, she said. All very interesting, but what if we could find a person who actually attended the show in 1960? There has to be a Ferrari connoisseur who attended the show and would have the recall to set the record straight. My Father attended that show but unfortunately he passed away in 1999.

Ferrari the man, the machines by Greyson shows a picture of white GT/E on pafe 334. Judging by many details this is 1903GT. I don't have a source for the photo showing the same car (?) repainted into red (?). Neither do I have a source for the photo of the S.3 car - neither can I find it right now. I remember Tom used it for a while on the start page to illustrate what 330 America looks like. Then I have a few photos from Paris 1960. No idea where they come from, except for the one shown in that Osprey book. Send your email address to me at kare.pietila (at) welho.com and I'll mail you (and anyone interested) my eventual findings. Best wishes, Karezac wrote:sorry Kare, it was you that said you saw the plate on various other cars can you tell me your sources.

progress continues, any idea what was put in the rear package tray and then the whole was covered with a riveted aluminum cover?

They planned to install a speaker under that grille, but then had nothing to install and decided to cover the hole in order to keep the noise from the trunk down?
The heater looks different: usually the tubes supplying air to wind shield come from a vortex-formed "pressure-box" sitting in engine compartment. Is there such thing at all in this heater? Where's the motor?
It is very interesting that in the beginning the gearbox and rear end numbers run hand-in-hand. As the second series of S.2 cabriolets shared the gearbox, the numbers soon got out of sync. I have no idea if the gearboxes on 1st series of S.2 Cabrios are different or if they just had a numbering system of their own.
This car also has (correct) door skins without the rectangular boxes with aluminum kick plates. Anyone has an idea what they were added for? To accommodate power window motors, maybe?
Best wishes, Kare

Spent one of those world famous 12 hour days with Shaughnessy yesterday delivering the rest of the engine and mechanical parts to Jens and transporting a Lusso for Jens to install the engine he just completed. The day started out with a quick brake job on Mrs. Shaughnessys car while Tom showed a customer a 365 GTC and than a quick hook up of the trailer and we were off. We made a brief stop at the Lusso owner’s house to load up his car than began the 2-hour journey to Jens house in the mountains. A 12 pack of Diet Coke, some Chernobyl beef jerky for Tom, and a few “are we there yets” from our sons in the back seat and we were there. One of the other tasks for the day was for Tom to deliver a GTC to a gentleman from LA who had just had some work done by Jens. I spent some time unloading the mechanical parts into the shop with Jens and feeding the goats with the boys while Tom trailered the GTC out to the main road for a test drive and to insure the owner was happy with his service. When Tom returned we all went over the project and discussed some obscure Ferrari gossip before loading up and heading back down the mountain to the Grove. The GTE is now basically stripped to the bare body; the front suspension is all that remains before the car can be sent to the painter. My painter tells me I will have the car back by mid summer and hopefully the mechanical components will be on the same schedule so that I can begin the reassembly process. In the mean time I will begin to get all the sub assemblies restored and sending out the wheels, polishing, plating, making a wire harness etc.etc.etc.

Zac & Tom S.,
If you don't mind me asking, who actually owns this car? Has Zac aquired it and Tom is helping or is Zac restoring it for Tom. The reason I'm asking it that based on the beginning of the thread, I thought Zac aquired it but it isn't listed on Zac's signature and the recent posts make it seem that Zac is restoring it for Tom.
Just curious.
Regards,
Art S.
