It seems that "L"- and "I"-knobs have been switched.
L = lights
I = rheostat for instrument panel lights (later changed to P)
W = Wind screen wipers
Pull knobs are F, D, P, H and DR but which is which?
I would guess:
F = fog lights
D = dome light (later changed to I - for interior light)
P = Fuel pump (later changed to A for Autoflux)
H = Heater (later changed to D for defroster)
DR = defroster rear (later changed to B)
Can you correct or confirm?

So Kare, which one do you think this is? It's got the "54083 MO" plates. It's clearly an early car (trim strip extends beyond the hood) but has rubber overriders and tear drop side markers that came after the prototypes and pre-production cars. Side vents are there (tho' hard to see in this scan).kare wrote:One interesting sideline is the adventures of register plate "MO 54083". I think this plate was first issued for 1287GT - the first 250 GT/E prototype - in 1959. It then appeared on a white GT/E and can be seen in backgound of some testing pictures of 246 F1 Dino of 1959/60. This must have been 1903GT in summer of 1960. Next time this plate was seen on a GT/E when they were testing 156 F1 "Sharknose" early in 1961. The GT/E is now darker, probably rosso corsa. I would think this is 1903/GT, now repainted. The register plate surfaced one more time; now on a 3rd series car. This car is a mystery to me.

Anyone?

I recently promised to send a few pics on the subject to anyone interested. I finally found the last ones I was looking for (I'm "between computers").
Factory car, probably Enzo's personal driver duting some F1 tests in summer/fall of 1960. No rubber inserts, old style register plate lights, round back up light, it's all there. This is 1903GT, all right.

Early 1961. Enzo is there with Phil Hill:

Same car, clearly:
http://koti.welho.com/kpietil4/early/03.jpg
And again. This picture shows side vents very well, but impossible to say if stamped into fender or a separate panel. I think this might be 1903/GT revised & repainted.

Battista and Sergio in Pininfarina stand of Paris Salon 1960. Who can identify the car? I know Corvair Consept was a big thing for them in 1960, but have not found any photos. Could this be it? The revized 1963 edition is alla over the net.

This is what I believe to be 2043GT in Paris Show. Note especially the old style register plate lights.

those pictures are awesome Kare! I know we disagree as to which GTE that is but what I do know is the tail end shot of that car shows the license plate stand offs like on 2169 and answers the question of wether the car originally had rubber inserts in the rear bumpers or they were solid like the front. Can you please tell me where these are from I and the car owner would love to have them.

well the car is officially stripped to the bare essentials and on the cart ready to go to paint. I am still waiting on the kit to complete the rotisserie but for now the car will get around on the dolley.

I understand how dirty the job is because a few weeks ago I did it on my Queen and the foam was all orange powder. What I would like is an explanation of the "not so invironmentally friendly foam". Should I expect to drop dead soon? I didn't take any precautions.Originally posted by zac:

Lets just say I might as well take up smoking unfiltered Pall Malls, oh well I guess when I'm 80 and on the respirator I will think differently about my lack of precautions. Seriously I don't know that there is anything specifically bad about the orange powder it just seams nasty.

In some earlier pictures we saw the heater. What bugs me is that the wind screen nozzle tubes are attached to the big heater box inside passenger compartment (my heater has these holes covered with rubber plugs). Now with the heater removed, we see the firewall also has the holes, where these hoses normally come through. This bugs me a little; did/does your car have the normal "vortex shaped pressure box" in the engine compartment? Were there any hoses attached an if so, where did they go to?
Note also that if the pressure box will eventually fill up with water, you will get no air to the driver side of windscreen anymore (so be sure to drill a 2 mm drain hole in bottom of that box!) and after filling up the lower part of the box, the water will flow through the radiator to the inside of the car. By the rust stains inside my radiator I can tell this is what happened in my car.

Well it has been a few weeks since I last posted any pictures, but work continues and I have spent quite a bit of time fabricating and welding the rotisserie for the car. Since Ferraris are not like American cars and the frame rails do not extend to the ends of the car it makes it quite a bit more challanging to mount in a secure spot that will also balance so that the vehicle can be turned. We have also sent the Borranis, steering wheel and gauges out for restoration and will be taking the wiring harness up to the guy who makes new ones this week.
