i have also seen where they shim the turn signal lever out slightly to smooth the cancel operation. The shim is on the first collar (smaller one) when u assemble the lever to the column. The end of the steering shaft more or less floats within the column it self except where the bearing is located (which is down another 6 inches or so)....so the ability to shim the switch in and out helps the contact points inside at the cancel cam due to the little bit of flex in the shaft.
