Green GTC Details IV

Before I assembled the exhaust on the green GTC headed for Cavallino, I needed to remove the passenger side header to get to the starter motor. The battery cables were auto parts store replacements, so I needed to get them off, get them measured, and get the correct side bolt battery cable ends made. I’ll show pictures of the cable ends when they come in.

The ground strap on this car was also an auto parts store item which you can see connected to the bottom of the battery frame in this picture. It’s certainly doing a fine job, but won’t win you any points at a concours. The correct one is a little thinner, and is braided copper. If an eagle eyed judge knew where to look, this could be a potential deduction!

Through the years of collecting parts, I had a correct original ground strap in my stash of parts and decided to donate it to the cause of this GTC!

There were so many little details on this car that had a potential for deductions. Not all judges are the same with some harder than others. This particular car showed evidence that some of the interior trim was left attached to the car as the exterior of the car was painted, so there were some signs of primer and paint over spray. I took the time to clean this paint off the trim to avoid a deduction, and to make this car look less sloppy!

It seemed every time I turned around, I found another incorrect detail. The straps that mount the radiator to the car had the wrong details.

The rivets are supposed to be solid, and bolt is supposed to be black oxide!

As I was putting the interior together, I checked the switches on the dash to make sure everything was working. Headlights? Check. Fuel pump? Check. Left blower motor?…left blower motor? Right blower motor? Check. I put a test light on the left blower motor and found voltage following the switch, but when I tried to turn the fan, I could feel it was pretty seized. These fans still behind the headlights and are exposed to all the elements, so I’m not surprised one failed. Luckily, new ones with housings are available. While I waited for it to arrive in the mail, I’ll keep checking the rest of the car!
