Sorting 330 issues

I’ve been working on a couple of 330s at my shop sorting out little issues. One of them had a broken mounting bracket that needed soldering.

I carefully scribed the location of the bracket so it could be reattached and line up with the chassis mounts.

While my radiator shop was pressure testing, they found another leak and patched it with some solder. With a little black paint, all will will be good as new!

As I sort out this 330, I noticed this car was missing a heat shield that insulated the starter from the headers. Luckily, I had another shield from one of the three other 330s I had at my shop to copy.

It’s a reasonable facsimile, less the asbestos!

On another 330, I was trying to get the carburetors tuned and one of the accelerator jets stopped working. I couldn’t get the little jets to clear out easily so I pulled the top of the carburetors off to take a look inside the fuel bowls only to find it filled with fine debris. I had drained the tank to rebuild the electric fuel pump and may have shaken loose some rust at the bottom of the tank that got past the filters.

My suspicions were confirmed when I checked the screen filters at the carburetors. The next step was to pull the other screens and replace the main fuel filter at the rear of the car.

The next screen at the adjacent carb was even worse, but I hope with new filters and a good cleaning, we’ll be OK, otherwise I may have to pull the fuel tank and have it cleaned. I’ll check these screens again after some more driving and make a decision then.
