The 246GT that was sent out for paint last Fall is back from a bare metal re-spray. I sent the car to Classic Rescue Coachwork in Long Island. Maciej Bakowski is a painter and a metal guy. In this business, those are two skills that don’t often come together. Paint guys are always blaming issues they have on the metal fab guy, while metal fab guys are shit talking about the amount of filler painters use to make up for bad metal work. Bakowski only had one person to answer for his work, so the final result was better!

While the car was being painted, I sent the front and rear window frames out for re-plating. Although the chrome was in decent shape for an original paint car, I wanted to make sure the chrome surrounds around the glass looked as nice as the paint.

The fear of painting a car without restoring the rest of the car is how bad decent chrome can look next to fresh paint. This car was a special low mileage unrestored Dino, and I felt the chrome could live up to the new paint with some polishing.

Most all of the chrome came back to life with some time and patience.

I also spent some time masking the marker lights and polishing the plastic lenses.

Little details like these will make this car shine in all aspects!
