Check with Verell Boaen. He molds new ends on your stalk. He did the headlight one on my 330. You can find his email on my Favorites page (http://www.parrotbyte.com/kbc/ferrari/favorite.htm). I don't like to post email addresses in forums. Even if he doesn't made an end before, as long as your's is complete (even broken), he can make a new mold. The only issue for you is that he's in the US.klv wrote:...I have a query on the indicator/light switch on the 365GT. Ours has been
'patched' in the past, but the main light switch is looking increasingly fragile. Have people just 'rebuilt' them previously or are they changeable for something else or do they come from another equivalent model. Also, I hope there isn't a difference between left & right hand drive versions! Any hints would be appreciated...

Hello Kerry
(and everyone else)
The main part where the problem is on the light switch is at the 'base' of the stalk. It's been broken in the past and 'patched', but the patch is now failing. Perhaps I need to talk to Mr Shaughnessy about his collection of bits and see if he has a good secondhand one...I assume LHD ones will be similar, especially as the lights & indicators are on the LH side of the steering column!
Cheers

carburetors
Hi A.D.
I just finished setting up my rebuilt carburetors. Mike Pierce was and continues to be an excellent support person.
One thing you can do besides rebuilding the distributors, is to check the intake manifolds for flatness. If the base of the carbs are warped, chances are the surface of the intake manifolds are also warped. I used a short steel straight edge to check mine.
By the way, is there any evidence of burned oil in the intake manifolds?, If so it is a good indication that the valve guides are less than sublime...
Cheers

an update
An update-the arbs are ready-Mike from Pierce Manifolds has e mailed me some photographs and i must say they look great! With a bit of luck i will have them in my hands in the next couple of weeks.
He is very kindly arranging for an intake manifold gasket, which will enable me to take the manifold off the car and check that its level before fitting the carbs back on. He is also sending me the bakelite packing that goes between the carbs and the manifold as well as 3 air filter elements, so the entire intake set up should be new.
I had already acquired a synchronometer from Pierce Maniflods earlier which will be used to synchronise the carbs.
I have also acquired a set of new spark plugs and 7 mm wires which will be put on once i have the carbs back on.
Is there anything else i should take care of or do?
Am thinking of getting the air filter box painted matt black while i am waiting for the carbs.should i go ahead and do this?Pls advise.
Cant wait! Vrooom Vroom!

Have you changed the fuel filter? It would be a shame to spend all this time and money to have your carburetors runined with bad gas.An update-the arbs are ready-Mike from Pierce Manifolds has e mailed me some photographs and i must say they look great! With a bit of luck i will have them in my hands in the next couple of weeks.

The air filter box is painted semi-gloss black, not flat black. Sorry to be so anal, but it's one of the most obvious things you see when you open the hood (bonnet)!

A.D. -I for one would love to see the photos. I use http://www.photobucket.com which will let you store your photos for free and doesn't seem to put you on any mail lists.
First, you have to set up an account. As my computer automatically logs me in, I can't say what the home page looks like, but I am sure there is a button that lets you sign up for an account.
After you have an account, go to the tab that says "My Album" then the tab that says "Album and Upload", if you don't go to that tab by default. Then on the right you have an upload box. Use the Browse button to find your photos, then hit upload. I have not tried the bulk uploader yet.
From there, follow the tutorial. If you have any problems, let me know and I will see what I can do.

Hi Tom,
Thank you for the advise on how to load photographs on this site. Will try it out!
And thank you Tom(Yang) for the advise that a fuel filter would go a long way in ensuring that these carbs remain in good shape.
I spoke to a friend in Bombay today, who is another car nut like all of us-
He said that the quality of fuel in India is particularly poor (with impurities due to the dusty conditions) and therefore recommended putting a 100 micron filter just before the fuel inlet into the carbs, with a 1/2" inlet as well as outlet-he said i could get one from Summit or any other such company.
Could i request you for your opinion on this, please?
Thanks and Best

I Highly recommed a better filter for your car, especially with the local advice!
Refresh my memory on the 365GT 2+2s, do they have a mechanical pump, as well as the electric, or are the carbs fed by only the electric pump in the rear? Your answer will decide how many filters you'll need to make sure all paths to the carburetors are filtered with a finer filter.

Early or Late
Tom,
The early 365's had one electric pump and one mech pump, just like 330's. The later 365's had two electric pumps in back. I think the cutoff is 12811, but Bryan P would know exactly. 365's almost had 2 series during the manufacturing run. Many small differences, also many big differences between US and "other country" cars. After finding "things" partially blocking my idle jets, I agree that a good filter should be used!

#12451 is also twin electrics. Zac advised me to have both the early and late parts books for my car, as the break of 12811 is not perfect for every item for cars in the mid-VIN range. I find the late book to be right most of the time, though my car is a bit before the VIN break.
I suspect, but do not know this for sure, that US versions had twin electrics as part of that spec.

As i understand all the above info,
My car, S Nr 12171 probably had two electric fuel pumps.
I presume these were fitted in series?
Does anyone know what the fuel pressure should be?-I have a sneaking suspicion that fuel pressure in my car may be too much-if there is something as too much fuel pressure.
And to come back to my orignal question-what micron/brand of fuel filters do i fit and where?
As described earlier i have had the fuel tank thoroughly cleaned and replaced the fuel lines with new ones.
I would like to do everything correctly before i set up the new (and working carbs)
I am going to try to post the carb pix today-so watch this space!

Thanks for the photos! They really help us to get a better feel for what we are dealing with. The body looks to be in great shape. I know your neighbor had it painted red. Was that because the paint was in poor shape or did it need body work?
By the way, it is great to hear about Pierce doing a good job for you. I hope those carbs work as good as they look!
